Foxglove Farm produces Part-bred Cleveland Bay horses, Dexter and Lineback cattle and Shetland sheep. We have been in business for 15 years and our focus is on producing user friendly animals, though animals we have bred have indeed gone on to show success.
For a long time, our centerpiece was Cleveland crosses.
Clevelands are an old horse breed. Developed in the north of England by breeding Thoroughbred stallions to the local draught mares, their original use was as pack horses, carrying wool. Big, calm and durable, they were also used as stagecoach horses. They average 15'2 - 17 hands and today are most commonly seen as hunters or eventers.
Nowadays, because of a downturn in the horse business in general and the labor intensity of raising these animals, we are only producing one or two a year. We are
sold out through 2010, but can put you in touch with other breeders with available animals.
